Social Scene |
|
Family is considered the center of social life in most circles and people are often very closely tied between family and very close friends. Slovakian people are often considered quiet people and value their own privacy. Hence at first they may seem distant or very formal during initial contact. Eventually Slovakian people tend to open up to friends but general politeness is consistent throughout the lifetime of a relationship.
Most common form of greeting is a hand shake with direct eye contact and introductions are formalized. If invited to a person's home, gifts are a wonderful way to show appreciation, wine, flowers, chocolates are common gifts. If bringing flowers, be sure to only bring an odd number of flowers (not 13 which is considered bad luck), furthermore ensure the flowers are not chrysanthemums or calla lilies and are not wrapped in any form of purple ribbon as these are traditions for funeral processions. |

Health Care |
|
Health Care: Slovakian health care is in a state of improvement as most hospitals are in some form of debt. Government funding from public taxes pay for universal state health care, giving all Slovakian citizens free health care, as well as for other European Union citizens. Private health care is available but is not widely used by Slovakian citizens. Emergency health care is available for free for all people, even those without any form of health insurance. |
