Geography

 

Location: Central Europe

Geographic coordinates: 48.1500° N, 17.1167° E

Climate: Slovakia maintains a continental temperate  climate leading to warm summers and cold winters. With highs of 37°C in the summer and lows of -20°C during the winter

Terrain: Slovakia is a predominantly  mountainous landscape with the largest lowland area being in the southwest of the country.

Elevation extreme:  Highest peaks in the country range close to and around 2500m above sea level, making for popular hiking and skiing sites.

Government

 

Slovakia is a multiparty parliamentary democratic republic headed by a president who is publicly elected for a 5 year long term. Prime Ministers are appointed by the president and often hold most of the governmental power.

Slovakia holds a 150 seat pariment –National Council of the Slovak Republic. Slovakia is a member of the European Union, Eurozone, Schengen Area and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
