While Portugal is not as common a destination
for study abroad, most universities in Portugal
open their gates to foreign students.
Studying in Portugal requires a good deal of
regulatory paperwork. Students planning to stay
longer than three months must obtain a visa from
their national consulate. Those students studying
only for the summer (i.e., for less than three
months) need only a passport. Individual universities
and programs have their own requirements, most
of which involve a basic knowledge of the local
language and a minimum grade point average.
Universities in major cities like Lisbon generally
have options available for foreign students who
wish to study abroad, but many other universities
in smaller cities like Granada have active study
abroad programs and host thousands of foreign
students every year. Check with the individual
school for specific requirements and procedures
for enrolling.
