Government

 

Government Structure: Malta is a republic with a multi-party parliamentary system made up of 69 members of parliament. The House of representatives appoint a President for a 5 year term, although his role is mostly formal. The prime minister is in turn appointed by the president and the prime minister is the one who governs the House of Representatives. Malta is a member of the European Union and is also part of the Schengen area.
